Who is TAPIF for?

The Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) offers Americans the chance to teach English in France for an academic year, with approximately 1,500 participants hired annually to teach in up to three schools. Ideal participants are those who enjoy teaching, possess a background in working with young people, and may have certifications or an interest in teaching English as a foreign language. 

TAPIF language assistants teach students ranging from primary to high school in various locations across France and its overseas departments, such as French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

The application process includes strict requirements, such as being a native English speaker, US citizenship, age between 20 and 35, French language proficiency (B1 level or above), and at least 3 years of college education. While a TEFL certificate, previous living abroad experience, and teaching background are preferred, obtaining a TAPIF visa is essential for accepted participants. 

The application timeline spans from October to October, with an acceptance rate of around 55%. Participants can be assigned to various locations in France and its overseas territories. TAPIF teachers work 12 hours per week, with flexibility in distributing hours among up to three schools. Housing is not provided, and teachers often opt for shared accommodation in larger cities or private rentals in rural areas.
