Australian video technology company BirdDog has announced the release of BirdDog Silicon 2. It’s a firmware update that integrates BirdDog Cloud Connect directly into firmware. As a result, all BirdDog NDI hardware solutions can create globally connected NDI workflows without the use of additional computer hardware.

NDI

NDI stands for Network Device Interface. It is a royalty-free software specification which enables video-compatible products to communicate, deliver, and receive high-definition video over a computer network. This is done in a high-quality, low-latency manner that is frame accurate and suitable for switching in a live production environment.

Free update

BirdDog has released the firmware as a free update for all BirdDog PTZ cameras, 4K Pro converters, and Flex NDI encoders. It also supports all major industry standard formats, including NDI, NDI|HX2, NDI|HX3, SRT, h.264, HEVC/h.265, RTMP, and RTSP. In addition, BirdDog has added capabilities which mean you can create globally connected workflows without any need for computers. As Cloud Connect is built directly into the hardware, you can send directly from any supported device to another.

Workflow

BirdDog claims that this unique feature of the Silicon 2 firmware presents compelling and efficient workflow opportunities for content creators. As an example, you can connect a BirdDog PTZ Studio in London to a Master Control room in New York City. At the same time you can monitor the broadcast in Melbourne and Paris simultaneously. In addition, you can do this with a secure, reliable connection with extremely low latency, without the need for additional processing computers or ‘gateways’.

Cloud Connect

Cloud Connect features a series of applications that enable you to monitor a Silicon 2 activated BirdDog camera or converter. It also works on any iOS, Apple TV, Android Mobile, Android TV, and even Samsung Tizen device. Again you can do this without the need for additional computers.

Availability

BirdDog Silicon 2 is available now from BirdDog’s website. It is a free firmware update for BirdDog customers.
