Green Screens & YouTube Channels

Perfect Green Screen (Almost) Every Time

The bottom line with good looking green screen is that if you shoot it perfectly before you get to the post production stage you will have great looking green screen every time.

The problem is that most of the time none of us get the opportunity to shoot that perfectly lit green screen footage!

So here are a few things you can do in Corel VideoStudio to make it all OK when things have not gone all OK from the beginning!

YouTube Shorts: Why You (May Have) Stopped Getting Views

The has been a lot of kerfuffle recently on the subject of YouTube #Shorts.

As a relatively new feature to YouTube it was inevitable that there were going to be some teething problems so in the video below you can get yourself up to date on what the current scene is.

There is also a second video below that one covering what may turn out to be a bit of a liability to anyone using the “Remix” feature on YouTube to create #Shorts from other creator’s content so check that as well.

How to Start a YouTube Channel – Beginner Masterclass

There are plenty of YouTubers out there at the moment offering all sorts of advice on how to start and grow a YouTube channel into a viable business.

It is hard to work out which ones to follow or listen to because very often you come across conflicting ideas and advice.

So, here’s why I have included the video below from Jeven Dovey on this subject.

First, it is a complete soup to nuts rundown of of how to start all the way through to having the channel up and running.

Secondly Jeven has around 900,000 subscribers to his channel but the channel itself is not solely devoted to how to start a YouTube channel.

His channel is successful in its own right on the subject of shooting and editing videos.

This is important because it clearly shows the ability to “walk the walk” and not just “talk the talk!”

Filmora 11 Slide Edit Tutorial

With the introduction of Filmora 11.6 a new editing feature was added called Slide Edit.

Prior to this feature being added if you wanted to replace an existing clip on the timeline you had to go through quite a few steps to get it done.

The main downside was that any effect or transition that had been applied to the existing clip would be lost so you had to go back and redo that as well.

In other words it was perfectly doable but complicated.

As you can see in the video below the Slide Edit feature makes this very simple.

Easy Coin Magic Trick – Wondershare Filmora Tutorial

So this tutorial video from Filmora is fine for what it is and shows you how to pull a neat little effect BUT! (There’s always a BUT!)

The real lesson here is the tip called “Cutting on Action.”

One of the things pro editors are watching for in any footage they are dealing with is the exact point where they are going to cut from one shot to the next.

It is amazing just how differently the audience can perceive a shot sequence manipulated solely by the editor and the points at which they make cuts.

As far as cutting on the action goes, if that didn’t exist then probably half the videos on TikTok would not exist!

Cinematic Title Outline Effect – PowerDirector

After you have been producing videos for any length of time you will soon discover that Titles fast become a monumental PITA.

You would think that given the sheer number of presets available in your average video editor this would not be a problem.

The trouble is that the presets almost invariably look cheesy unless you adjust them to some degree.

In the end you realize you probably should have started from scratch anyway. Here’s a technique you may want to use.

Top 5 Editing Effects That Will Make Your Video Better

Although this one is done in the Movavi video editor the concepts being discussed are pretty much universal.

Regardless of which video editing software you are using I am certain you will have an effects folder brimming with all sorts of stuff.

It is at this point that we have to invoke the golden rule of editing and post production.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should!

Effects are supposed to enhance your video, not make up for mistakes or become the video itself.

So your first question is, “Should I?”

After that it comes down to choosing an appropriate effects but more importantly, tailoring that effect for your footage or what you are trying to do.

TRUTH: It’s the VIEWERS that make a Good YouTube Channel

Not your run of the mill “how to YouTube” video this week from Kevin as usual!

In fact this is a timely reminder to all of us that YouTube actually functions best when we treat it as a community.

60 Second Strategy – Thumbnail Edition

So let’s get something clear here right from the outset.

Arguably one of the most boring aspects of creating and uploading a video to your YouTube channel is creating the right thumbnail.

There is nothing exciting or interesting about it but unfortunately it is probably one of the most important features of a YouTube video for when it comes to getting that initial click.

Sure you can create “clickbait” type thumbnails but that strategy is always pretty short-lived unless the clickbait image actually relates to the video itself and the video can retain the viewer.

There are established best practices to get it right and checking out a bunch of thumbnails as in the video below is a great way to learn.
