Qatar Airways and its technology partner, MADA, are continually enhancing the customer experience for all visitors to improve the inclusivity of its services.
To achieve this inclusivity, QRDI and Qatar Airways are seeking innovative technologies to deliver “Pre-flight AR/VR content for autistic children” capable of addressing the specific needs of autistic persons to improve their overall experience.
The flying experience is often seen as challenging for some people, where tiredness, stress, and timekeeping are common complaints. For parents with children, it is magnified, and special needs increase all the stressors even further. Autism spectrum disorder (ASM) affects a significant number of children globally and air travel can be particularly challenging.
Qatar Airways, together with MADA, has developed a state-of-the-art physical space for autism research within Qatar at a bespoke simulation laboratory. The flight simulation lab aims to alleviate the stress and anxiety associated with travelling by offering a virtual space to simulate the pre-flight experience. Future developments and innovation may even encompass the full flight experience.
Qatar Airways is now seeking to integrate this simulation laboratory with immersive software content, enabling the ASM-affected children to experience the pre-flight process in a safe environment before engaging in physical activity.
This challenge aims to develop software content that can be utilized with standard or bespoke hardware (AR/VR headsets).
Submissions to this Challenge must be received by Mar 15, 2024.
