Canon has announced a Pro version of its EOS Webcam Utility software for Windows and Mac computers.
What is it?
The EOS Webcam Utility Pro software turns your compatible Canon EOS camera into a high-quality webcam. Canon says that the software is now compatible with more than forty of its cameras. The models include classic DSLRs such as the 5D Mark III and 6D through to the latest EOS R mirrorless cameras. In addition, the only connection that you need is a USB cable.
Free or paid
There is a free version of the EOS Webcam Utility Pro software. This allows you to stream video at up to 720P at 30 fps. The free version is also limited to use with a single camera and manual control of camera settings. There is also a paid version of the EOS Webcam Utility Pro software. This is available on a monthly or annual subscription plan and has many extra features.
Multiple cameras
With the subscription version of Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility Pro software, you can connect up to five cameras via USB. This means you can have multiple camera angles for your streaming projects or output to multiple channels simultaneously. You can also stream at up to 60 fps in full 1080p resolution. In addition, you get control over your cameras so that you can adjust camera settings from your computer.
Other features
The subscription version of the EOS Webcam Utility Pro software includes the option to connect your camera wirelessly. There are also settings that improve customization possibilities, such as various layout options and transitions between scenes. You can even add a watermark to preserve the ownership of your content.
Verdict
The Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro software adds some great new features. To take full advantage, you will need to subscribe. However, the cost isn’t great, especially if you can afford the annual option. It also looks to dramatically improve the quality of your livestreaming when you use Canon DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
Pricing and availability
The Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro software is available to download now from the Canon website. The paid version costs $5 per month, or you can choose an annual subscription for $50 per year. In addition, you get a 30-day trial with both subscription versions. At present, the software will be available exclusively to customers in the U.S.
