AI revolution in cybersecurity: Palo Alto’s vision unveiled

This April 16-17, we’re pleased to welcome you back to San Jose with four co-located summits.

In the heart of Silicon Valley, AICXO Summit brings C-Suite executives and VP-level practitioners together, discussing how artificial intelligence and machine learning can help scale AI responsibly and maximize ROI.

Amongst the variety of talks across the two days, Lee Klarich, Chief Product Officer at Palo Alto Networks, will be headlining a session titled “Transforming cybersecurity with AI“.

From the company’s humble beginnings in 2006 to its position today as a leader in securing the digital frontier, Lee’s journey is a testament to innovation, growth, and the relentless pursuit of solving complex security challenges.

1. Let’s hear a bit more about you Lee – please introduce yourself in a few sentences.

I’m the Chief Product Officer at Palo Alto Networks, where I started in 2006 when there was just a small group of incredible engineers and the start of a great idea.

As with many small companies we were very focused on building highly innovative products to solve important and complex problems. What’s amazing is that after all these years of tremendous growth, we’re still doing it. We have the same innovative spirit and culture and the same commitment to solving important security problems.

2. Can you tell us a little bit about some of your recent projects, and your main focuses right now at Palo Alto Networks?

Artificial intelligence is definitely a main focus for us. We’ve been working on AI for a long time as a company and have already seen the early benefits in our products (like XSIAM, Autonomous Digital Experience Management, ADEM, and AIOps) and embedded in our platforms.

As AI use continues to grow in business (and with cybercriminals), organizations need to ensure AI is being used in a secure manner and defend against the escalating scale, sophistication, and speed of attacks.

Some exciting projects we are working on to secure organizations through this evolution include our AI copilots, which are currently in the hands of leading customers who are giving us feedback before we move to general availability, and several additional AI-based offerings in the next few months.

3. Palo Alto Networks are leaders in cybersecurity – what is it that makes them continue to stand out?

Two things:

1) our ability to innovate at scale – I’ve seen many companies struggle to do this as they evolve out of the startup phase, but our commitment to great technology, our ability to embrace and drive disruption, and our talented team have enabled us to not only continue to innovate but continually increase the volume of innovations we are able to drive.

And 2) our approach to platforms.

The word “platform” is used a lot in cybersecurity, but not just any platform approach will drive incredible security outcomes. A platform must be innovation-led, comprehensive, truly integrated, and with the ability to secure in real-time.

4. Is it fair to say we’re in the early stages of assessing AI’s impact on cybersecurity?

AI will have a tremendous impact on cybersecurity: nearly every employee, developer, and even attacker, will adopt AI. This means that AI use must be both protected and defended against.

At the same time, the cybersecurity industry will also be able to adopt AI to predict and defend against attacks in new ways to deliver increasingly better security outcomes for customers.

5. What will attendees learn and take home from your talk in San Jose?

AI will forever change both business and cyber threats. In my talk, I’ll show how cybersecurity is evolving to secure the new landscape, and what things could look like as AI use continues to grow and the impact increases.
