Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake ‘Alive And Well’ Following Embracer Sale

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake ‘Alive And Well’ Following Embracer Sale

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is “alive and well,” according to Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch. He revealed this during a recent interview with IGN, where he also confirmed Saber took Star Wars: KOTOR Remake with it following its split from Embracer Group.

Last month, Embracer Group, the company behind the closure of Saints Row studio Volition Games and layoffs at companies like Black Forest Games and Eidos-Montréal, sold Saber in a $500 million deal. It sold the studio, which is also developing the first-person adventure Jurassic Park: Survival, to a group of private investors under Beacon Interactive, which is controlled by Karch. At the time of the sale, the company didn’t mention its Star Wars: KOTOR Remake, leaving excited fans concerned for the game, which itself has already gone through some rocky development

Now, thanks to Karch’s interview with IGN, we know the game is still in development.

“It’s clear and it’s obvious that we’re working on this,” Karch told the publication. “It’s been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.”

That’s all Karch shared about the remake, however, and IGN writes that in an investor call following the announcement of Saber’s sale, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors implied the remake might still be a long ways away.

Windblown Preview – A Twister On A Classic Formula – Game Informer

Any conversation about great roguelites is incomplete without mentioning Dead Cells, the Castlevania-inspired game from developer Motion Twin. With its variety of biomes, massive armory of unlockable weapons, and breakneck combat, it’s cemented itself as one of the best roguelites of all time. But after seven years of support, its development team is moving onto a new project that has the potential to be just as exciting: Windblown, an isometric roguelite with bright graphics and three-player co-op.

[embedded content]

The game was revealed with a beautifully animated announcement trailer at last year’s Game Awards ceremony, and while it showed brief snippets of gameplay, it left a lot to be desired. Today, Motion Twin unveiled some new footage that gives fans a clearer look at what gameplay will actually be like. In addition to that, Game Informer had the chance to view about eight minutes of alpha footage behind closed doors to learn some more specific details about the game.

Windblown has at least three playable characters – known in this world as Leapers – but the trailer (and the alpha footage) both center mostly on the axolotl player. The most noticeable thing about the game, even in the very first combat encounter, is its speed. Our axolotl adventurer is constantly on the move, slashing at enemies, dashing away from their attacks, and speeding behind them for a backstab attack. The developers put a lot of emphasis on the players’ ability to dash, and the gameplay shown reflects how crucial it is. Even between fights, when navigating the floating islands of the Vortex, players can dash at will, rapidly zipping across gaps.

Windblown Preview – A Twister On A Classic Formula – Game Informer

The Leaper in our demo footage is wielding the fish knife, a cleaver-like blade, but eventually picks up some kunai as well. Much like Dead Cells, Windblown will feature an array of unique weapons, which can be switched between in the heat of battle, but it takes this dual-wielding feature even further than its predecessor. By performing certain actions with one weapon, you can perform an Alterattack, scoring big damage with your other weapon. In our axolotl’s case, using up all the kunai enables them to trigger the Alterattack on the fish knife. If that doesn’t finish your foe off, there are also powerful finishers called Crystallize attacks that do even more damage when synchronized with other players. It’s cool to see the combat system encourage both weapon variety and player cooperation.

A variety of perks can also be found in your journey through the Vortex. Gifts offer passive benefits, like bonus backstab damage, boosted damage after dashing, or a homing arrow that triggers when you hit a foe. Trinkets are special bonus attacks, like bombs, slow-moving death orbs, or poison clouds. Meanwhile, collectible Fish have powerful abilities, like one that swallows and restrains foes, but you’ll need to wait for their lengthy cooldowns to wear off before using them again.

You’ll need all of these abilities, too, because the magical robot/constructs in Windblown look tough. Eventually, the demo player dies and is forced to return to the hub world, a grassy collection of islands called the Ark. It’s home to some pleasant-looking NPCs, including an anthropromorphic Wolf who grants permanent upgrades. Many of these will look extremely familiar to fans of Dead Cells: there’s a healing flask, the ability to choose an additional starting weapon, the ability to start with a trinket, and a skill called Recycling, which is likely similar to the Dead Cells ability of the same name that allows you to transform unwanted items into currency. And this is just what’s visible in the current demo – many other options on the menu are locked for later. During the run, the Leaper also collected a souvenir for the heavy blade, so they can spend some money to unlock it for future runs.

While we haven’t had a chance to go hands-on yet, Windblown looks great so far, like a vibrant mix between the design of Dead Cells and the combat of games like Hades. For those hoping to check it out soon, Motion Twin plans to put the game into early access on Steam to use player feedback to shape the game. You’ll be able to get your hands on it some time later this year.

The Final Fantasy XIV And XVI Crossover Event Is Live And Features New Storyline, Clive’s Outfit, Torgal, And More

Final Fantasy XVI is nearing its one-year anniversary since its release back in June of last year on PlayStation 5. With its final set of DLC coming in The Rising Tide launching this spring, and the PC release on the horizon, developer Creative Business Unit III has brought protagonist Clive Rosfield over to its other Final Fantasy game, the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV.

Thanks to a new crossover event between FFXIV and FFXVI, players can now make their Warrior of Light look like Clive and even ride atop his trusty dog companion, Torgal. Plus, the crossover contains a new story questline for FFXIV, orchestration rolls to collect that feature songs from FFXVI, and an adorable puppy Torgal minion.

Dubbed The Path Infernal, Square Enix says, “At the conjunction of two stars does the tale begin” between FFXIV and FFXVI. And the crossover is now live as of yesterday, April 2. You have until Wednesday, May 8, to complete the questline, which begins with A Land on Fire. In order to partake in this questline, your Warrior of Light must be Level 50 and you have to have completed the main scenario quest, The Ultimate Weapon; or, in other words, you have to complete the main story of A Realm Reborn.

After that, head to Ul’Dah – Steps of Nald (X: 8.8, Y: 9.8) to accept A Land on Fire and begin your adventure with Clive.

Completing this questline gets your Warrior of Light the full regalia of Clive. That includes the Metian Vest, Metian Guantlets, Metian Chausses, and Metian Sollerets.

U.S. Treasury warns financial sector, AI threats “outpacing” security – CyberTalk

U.S. Treasury warns financial sector, AI threats “outpacing” security – CyberTalk

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

According to a new U.S. Treasury Department report, the financial services industry is extremely vulnerable to cyber threats that weaponize AI-based tools. The report provides warning to the industry at-large, while also sharing best practices and advocating for AI-based threat prevention.

The “…report builds on our successful public-private partnership for secure cloud adoption and lays out a clear vision for how financial institutions can safely map out their business lines and disrupt rapidly evolving, AI-driven fraud,” stated Under Secretary for Domestic Finance, Nellie Liang.

AI-powered attacks

According to high-level stakeholders who hail from financial technology companies, generative AI capabilities may give the “upper hand” to cyber criminals.

Experts anticipate that AI will supercharge malware potency, social engineering tactics, vulnerability discovery (on the part of hackers) and disinformation campaigns – including deepfake videos that show impersonation of executives.

Financial institutions have long utilized AI for cyber security, anti-fraud and other operational purposes. However, many have stated that their current risk frameworks remain inadequate when it comes to preventing novel artificial intelligence-based attack vectors.

As AI models become more resource-intensive, over-reliance on third-party cloud providers also presents new cyber security risks.

Short-term recommendations

The Treasury report details several immediate measures that financial services companies can take to mitigate risks:

  • Leverage existing regulations. Although AI-specific rules are still emerging, many current cyber security, privacy and risk management regulations can be applied to AI system governance.
  • Improve anti-fraud data sharing. At present, large banks have a major advantage in building AI fraud detection models, as they have large data reserves. More public-private data pooling is needed.
  • Develop AI data supply chain mapping. Like nutrition labels for food, “AI nutrition labels” should be mandated to clarify the origins and parameters of training data used to build AI models.
  • Cyber workforce transformation. Static training programs must be overhauled in order to develop AI-fluent cyber security professionals; talent that can effectively operationalize AI-based tools while upholding ethics, security and privacy standards.
  • Push for increased government coordination. An inconsistent patchwork of state/federal AI rules presents a tangle of different challenges. Aligned regulations and public-private partnerships are needed in order to effectively combat threats.

Long-term solutions

In order to address the AI-based cyber security challenges outlined by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, financial institutions are also encouraged to explore Check Point’s industry-leading AI cyber security offerings.

Check Point’s unified cloud security platform secures financial AI workloads and data across public clouds, private clouds and on-premises, using comprehensive AI-powered security services.

Given how AI-based cyber threats are intensifying, banks and fintech groups need to urgently prioritize AI risk management programs, upgrading defenses before disruptive attacks manifest.

Early mover advantage

When it comes to getting ahead of the AI security curve, there is such thing as an early-mover advantage. By partnering with Check Point, financial institutions can acquire the strategic vision and execution velocity required to outpace modern threats. MechWarrior 5: Clans | New Gameplay Today

MechWarrior 5: Clans | New Gameplay Today

MechWarrior is a video game series that has been going strong since 1989, and was even a tabletop wargame before that. Clans, however, is the first time in a long time the video games have leaned into the universe’s fiction in a big way. The single-player (or cooperative) campaign features a full narrative complete with cutscenes and characters, which is quite different from the recent entries which have primarily been focused on competitive online action.

Join Charles Harte and me as we take a look at gameplay for Clans, which is coming this year to consoles and PC.
